Abstract This mivestigation aims to study the effect of microstructure on the mechanical behaviour of the as cast commercial purity aluminium alloys in the al-rich corner of the ai-cu-ni sestem.the experaiental work includes the preparation of 70 alloys representing the different compositions in the region up to 33 wt% . cu and up to 10 wt% ni. the homogenized specimens are tested for microstructure and hardness, tensile and impact testing. the strength results are analysed using the rule of mixture . the calculated and measured values are similar only at low volume fractions of the dispersed phases for both the two and three phase zones while the dissimilarity of results at higher volume fractions are attributedto the coarsing and nonuniformity of the microstructure. other experimental results and discussions are given. |
