Abstract A large volume of ten litres soda black liquor was centrifuged to isolate suspended matter. Five samples each of one litre were taken from the supernatant and subjected to the following treatments: Sample A was left without treatment, sample B was autoxidized at the stock pH value (10.4), sample C was autoxidized at pH 14 and samples Dj and Dj were autoxidized at pH 14 after the addition of 100 and 300 mg hydroquinone respectively. The precipitates formed during the oxidation were isolated. Contents of the supernatants after treatment as well as the untreated sample were acidified to pH 6 and the precipitates were isolated. The fractional precipitation of contents of the supernatants having the pH value 6 was continued at pH 4 and 1. The precipitates at the pH values 10.4,6 and as well as the precipitates formed during the treatment of soda black liquor were extracted by a dioxan-HCL mixture and dimethylformamide successively. |
