Abstract The object of the present work is to study the diffusion controlled corrosion of agitated vessel rotating impellers in relation to the following parameters. (1)Geometry of the impeller, emphasis was placed on the turbine type impeller which is used widely in practice. The following turbine impellers were used: (i) Four blade 45° pitched turbine (ii) Hour blade flat turbine (in) Six blade disc turbine (2)Rotational speed of the impeller. (3)Physical properties of the solution (p, \.i, and D). (4)The presence of baffles. (5)The presence of suspended solids. (6)The presence of drag reducing polymers (polyox WSR-301). The present work was conducted using the diffusion controlled dissolution of copper in acidified eliminates. The study revealed the following results: 1. The rate of impeller corrosion was found to increase with increasing its rotational speed, while impeller diameter was found to have a negligible effect on the rate ot corrosion. |
