Abstract

The Egyptian industry is facing high competition in local and export markets. To secure a reasonable and growing market share; quality products, cost control, and new management concepts are essential. To understand the key characteristics of the Egyptian industry managerial potentials, especially those related to TQM, a field survey has been conducted. The survey main objectives were:
1. To assess top management activities pertaining to TQM.
2. Pointing out successful TQM policies, exercised by Egyptian Industrial managers.
3. Enumerating TQM policies, methods and tools suitable to be adopted and accepted efficiently in the Egyptian environment and under local constraints.
4. Adapting the suitable TQM policies, methods, and tools to the local environment and constraints.
Though the survey results are cognate to the Egyptian industry, nearly all of them can be generalized to other developing countries. In addition to the suggested recommendations and highlights, this thesis introduces a methodology for assessing the applicability and possible use of TQM policies, methods, and tools in developing industries.
The review for previous work includes: total quality management (TQM) origination and development, TQM methods and techniques, and also illustrates a group of comparable field surveys that took place in other countries.
Chapter two exhibits the research justification, basic concepts, and expected benefits. Chapter three describes the survey population and classifies respondents according to manufacturing sector and industry. A brief description of the survey questionnaire is also introduced.
Chapter four, illustrates the analysis of the survey results, inferences and discussions of management broad activities, procedures and methods.
