Abstract
A research study has been carried out to examine methods by which the oil recovery characteristics of belt skimmer might be further improved. The research describes the experimental techniques, which have been used to establish the performance of belt skimmer under specified test conditions. The working parameters considered in this experimental study are namely belt linear speed, belt inclination angle, oil film thickness, wave height and current speed.
Experiments are carried out for belt linear speed in the range from 0.55 to 1.2 m/s, belt inclination angle in the range from 35 to 65, oil film thickness in the range from 6 to 14mm, wave height in the range between 0 to 37mm and current speed from 0 to 1.8 knots.
Experimental results are presented for oil recovery rate and oil recovery efficiency.
