Abstract

Through this study different subject that concerns Coptic architecture had been revi study had been divided into three main parts as the following:
‎Part (1 ):Architectural study:
‎This part is divided into three chapters:
‎Chapter (I): The orders of Coptic churches plan:
‎The development of Coptic churches had been reviewed in this chapter through highlightil1 orders of the Coptic church plan through the different periods, starting from Basilican ’ (Triconch style, Coptic Basilica, twins domes churches, ... Etc.), passing by Byzantine order ( churches, cross shaped churches, tetraconch style, ... Etc.) and reaching to Coptic style (Ak!1 style, Nubia churches, twelve domes churches, .. Etc.)
‎Chapter (2): The elements of Coptic church plan:
‎In this chapter the development of each element in the plan will be discussed. The differen4 shapes and locations will be highlighted. Through this study it will be concluded that some c elements had appeared in certain periods and then vanished. Some of these elements had reapp’ again and some of them had completely disappeared such as the Ambon. It will also be noticec some of these elements used to have special forms and shapes of its own differ from these ( similar elements in western churches. Some of these parts used to have different shapes throu~ different periods, such as the nave the proportions and the dimensions of which had varied obvi through the different periods.
‎This chapter includes a trial to trace each one of these elements through the different Samples, which represent each century, were selected. These samples were almost constant thl the whole study. Only well known and uniform shaped churches were selected.
‎Chapter (3): The general properties of Coptic Church plan:
‎In this chapter the general properties of Coptic Church plan were reviewed. Form (shape. proportions, ... Etc.) and order (axis, hierarchy, rhythm and repetition, ... Etc.) had been highli~ Structural systems, its development, shape and styles were also discussed.
‎This chapter had included a trial to trace the structural systems in the different eras th] certain samples, which is almost the same as these used in the previous chapter. The shapes I columns and the roofs of which had been analyzed to conclude the common systems that dominant in each period.
‎Part (2): Comparative study:
‎This part consists of two main chapters:
