Abstract The present study was conducted to identify patient’s needs from perspective of emergency department unit patient and identity nurse perception about patient’s need, and compare both perception to determine similarities or differences between nurses and patient perception about The needs of emergency units patients perception at Zagazig University hospital. The study subjects composed of 80 nurse worked in the emergency units and 200 patients admitted to the emergency units during the period of the study, and met the inclusion criteria. A questionnaire by Hostutler (1999) modified and used to collect data of the present study. The results revealed that both nurses and patients perceived physical need as the most important need, also patients perceive psychosocial need more than nurses. On other hand both nurses and patients perceived cognitive needs and accessibility of health services approximately the same. There was a statistically significant relationship between patients’ age and their needs, and between past history about previous admission to hospital and patient’s perception about their psycho-social needs. Meanwhile these statistically significant relationship between nurses perception about patient’s needs and their age, level of job and qualification. According to finding of the present study recommended pre and continuous education program for all nurse worked in emergency departments about patient’s needs. |
