Abstract The main objective of the studies described in this thesis involve the synthesis of six classes of heterocyclic systems contaning benzanilide moiety and to evaluate their antibacterial and antifungal activities as they are new molecules in this subject. These compounds are oxazolo thiadiazolo-, selenadiazolo-, pyrazolino-, isoxazolino and pyrimidinethionobenzanilides. The I.R., N.M.R., M.SP., U.V., visible spectra of the synthesized compounds and their chemical reactions were discussed and evaluated. Oxazolobenzanilides: Synthesis of 2-Aryloxazolo [3,4-d] benzanilides (160): The starting substance for the synthesis of oxazolo- benzanilides of the types (160a-f) was 3-amino-4-hydroxy-benzanilide (156). In order to fulfil this aim, it was then necessary to prepare 3-(phenylazo-p-sodium sulphonate)-4-hydroxy- benzanilide (154), thus, diazotised sulphanilic acid was coupled in aqueous-alkaline medium with 4-hydroxybenzanilide (2). (It must be mentioned that this compound was prepared by five different methods in this thesis), gave compound 3-(phenylazo-p-sodium sulphonate)-4-hydroxybenzanilide (154). Reduction of the azo compound 154 in alkaline medium, through the agency of sodium hydrosulphite yielded 3-amino-4-hydroxybenzanilide (156). |
