المستخلص

In recent decades, there has been a rapidly increasing growing demand for new renewable sources of energy. Renewable energy resources such as photovoltaic, solar thermal and geothermal energy are being attractive because of their effect on the environment of the most promising applications of renewable energy resources a wind and solar energy. They are used as power supply of remote areas where the connection with the main electric utility grid is not economical. The use of a stand alone system based on renewable energy resources in remote areas may give an economically attractive alternative compared with the expensive diesel generators.
Today, photovoltaic is utilized in battery charging, water pumping, lighting, electrification of remote areas and telecommunications. Also they are applied as remote system like radio telecommunications, satellite earth stations or at sites that are far from a conventional power system. Such systems are usually equipped with storage system to meet load demand during short periods, when there is a deficit of available renewable energy.
This thesis introduces a stand-alone photovoltaic system. The system consists of an array of solar panels, DC-DC converter with technique of maximum power point tracking (PI controller or ANN controller), load and battery storage. DC-DC converters (Buck, Boost, Buck-boost and Cûk) are used to convert the unregulated DC input from PV array into a controlled DC output at desired voltage level. They are designed to extract the maximum possible power from the PV module. An artificial neural network (ANN) controller MPPT for PV system based on back-propagation algorithm is executed in this thesis. The tracking algorithm changes the duty ratio of the converter so that the PV array voltage equals the voltage corresponding to the maximum power point.
The use of photovoltaic systems for the production of electricity is used to generate power at certain time on the day. A storage element is required in all solar energy systems to be used during the night time hours. The most common form of energy storage unit is a battery. The load used in this system is a permanent magnet DC motor.
