Abstract

Ten patients were selected from the outpatient Clinic of the prosthodontic Department, Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine, Cairo University and were divided into two equal groups. The first group received upper complete denture and lower free end saddle partial denture with non-balanced occlusion scheme. The second group received upper complete denture and lower free end saddle partial denture with balanced occlusion scheme.
The effect of both type of occlusion on the supporting structures of the abutments in both groups was evaluated and compared both clinically and radiographically at the denture insertion and after 3,6 and9 months.
Clinical evaluation involved:
- Gingival index scores.
- Probing depth measurements.
Radiographic Evaluation involved:
- Marginal bone height changes around the abutments (mesial and distal sides).
- Bone density changes around the abutments (mesial and distal sides).
On analyzing of the obtained data the following results were achieved:
- There was no significant change in the mean gingival index scores and probing depth measurements throughout the follow-up period.
