Abstract A methodological study was conducted at University Hospital in Menoufiya Egypt to develop and implement an operating theater performance appraisal tool. The aims of the study were to: 1- Design a tool to evaluate the nurse’s performance of tasks and behavior in the operating theater. 2- Test the validity and reliability of the Operating Theater Nurse’s performance Appraisal tool (OTNPAT). 3- Implement the Operating Theater Nurse’s performance Appraisal Tool in Menoufiya University Hospital, Menoufiya, Egypt. The developed tool included 64 items which identified the tasks of the circulating and scrub roles of the operating theater nurse’s performance. The tool was developed using current literature and the Association of Operating Room Nurses ( AORN INC) standards, recommended, practices & guidelines. After development, The tool was evaluated and validated by jury groups consisting of surgeons and nurse educators. The tool was implemented to assess the performance of operating theater nurses at Menoufiya University Hospital. The study found that the Operating Theater Nurse’s performance Appraisal tool is valid and reliable. The tool is recommended for performance evaluation of operating theater nurses. |
