Abstract Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common carcinoma in the world. The most imporlant predisposing factors are the presence of cirrhosis of any cause and chronic viral hepatitis especially HBV and HCV.Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a leading cause of liver .ancei and cirrhosis, and Egypt has possibly the highest HCV prevalence worldwide.Symptoms and signs of HCC are-non-specific, but unexplained deterioration in a previously stable patient with cirrhosis may denote malignancy.Mortality due to HCC has not improved over the last 20 years and death rates for HCC in Egypt appear to be increasing over the last decade. This is in part due to the poor performance of available tumor markers leading to delay in the diagnosis. |
