Abstract Episiotomy is the surgical incision of a woman’s perineum to enlarge the vaginal introit us. Moreover pain following episiotomy appears to be almost universal. Unfortunately there has been little research to document the frequency or severity of pain and edema following episiotomy. The current study was conducted in the university Maternity Hospital (Elshatby) situated in Alexandria. A purposive sample consists of 90 women who were in labor. The women in the study sample were divided into three groups of treatment. There were 30 subjects in each group . Group 1 received cold treatment which was applied to their episiotomy or laceration. Group 2 subjects received hot treatment which was applied to their episiotomy or laceration. Group 3 subjects received combination of cold treatment followed by hot treatment which was applied to their episiotomy or laceration. There were four method of data collection : ( Interview, REEDA, Chart review and Observation ) . A pilot study was conduct on nine cases. Sociodemographic data were analyzed for frequency distribution. Data were analyzed by using computer program SPSS .pc . The type of statistical test was selected according to the research hypotheses. |
