Abstract The present study aimed to identify the stressors perceived by individuals with arthritis, to describe the strategies used and their perceived effectiveness in coping with arthritis related stressors. This study was conducted in Menoufya Uniaersity Hospital, Menoufya Egypt. A convenience sample including 100 subjects was followed . Three instruments were utilized : i.e. Socio-demographic Data Questionnaire, Related Stressor Checklist and Jalowiec Coping Scale Interviews were conducted to collect data pertinent to this study . The main results reached by the study were : The largest percentage of the sample (40%) were in the group 48-57 years, females (70%), read and write (42%), employed (51%) and married (79%). The greatest numbers (39%) of patients had morning stiffness for less than 50 minutes. All patients suffered from pain at different levels Thirty-six percent of the subjects were able to carry out activities of daily living with difficulty but with assistance from others; 33% of subjects needed on assistance, 25 % of subjects needed some assistance from others while 6% of subjects needed complete assistance from others. |
