Abstract Great amounts of slags accumulate every year during the production of copper at Egyptian Copper Works, Alexandria. This slag did not find any significant application liD now. It is often simply buried in landfills, contributing to national environmental The purpose of the present study was to investigate the viability of making valuable ramie materials from the copper slag of the Egyptian Copper Works (ECW), ria, Egypt. The motivation of this work was not only to reduce the environmental associated with these copper slags but also to make a new material that has wide new applications. The different parameters contributing to both the formation and ition of glass to produce glass-ceramics as well as the final properties of the glass-ceramic materials are investigated. The obtained slag glass-ceramics have several desirable and unique properties that make them attractive for manufacturing commercially. The low cost of the raw Is. the high mechanized method of production and the high service characteristics glass-ceramics make them competitive against conventional materials. Thus the || glass-ceramics prepared from the copper slag of the ECW are expected to have wide ions as acid and alkali resistant, strong and wear resistant materials in chemical, mining, electric power and other branches of industry. Also they can be used in : and architectural construction. |
