Abstract Caudal analgesia is the most popular regional anesthetic used in pediatric surgery for various surgical procedures, such as lower abdominal, urological, and lower limb operations (Uguralp et. al., 2002). It is a relatively simple technique with a predictable level of blockade. A combination of local blockade supplemented with light general anesthesia allows for quicker awakening due to less need for volatile anesthetic agents, provides analgesia beyond the duration of surgery, with smooth recovery and good postoperative pain control facilitating early discharge (Koinig et. al., 1999). |
