Abstract

Some forty years ago, free tissue transplantations performed routinely today were enormous challenges that were not uncommonly fraught with complications and failures. With the advancement achieved in the last two decades, the focus of free flap surgery began to shift to flap refinements and reduction in donor site morbidity since success rate reached almost 98 percent in different centers. Also the surgeon started to be concerned with the final aesthetic outcome rather than simply reconstructing a wound (Wei & Celik, 2003).
