Abstract
Laparoscopy is a safe and well tolerated procedure in the hands of an experienced and skilled operator . ( 68 )
Aside from faulty technique and inexperience , the risk of complications is enhanced in the presence of certain well recognized circumstances :
(1) Systemic factors :
These relate to coexisting cardio-respiratory disorders deficiencies of the clotting mechanism . Laparoscopy is best avoided for three months after a myocardial infarction . In patients with ischemic heart disease , the procedure should be performed under general anesthesia and continuous monitoring .
