Abstract

According to the results of this study it could be conclude that:
• LCA could consider a useful technique for comparing between mazout and natural gas as a raw material for power station.
• Extremely 85.5-ton fuel oil and 688 ton of water have been consumed during life cycle of mazout to produce 100MW electricity. Total cost of mazout was equal 15561 L.E. While 46 ton of fuel and 528 ton of water have been consumed along life cycle analysis of natural gas to produce 100MW electricity with total cost equal 8372 L.E.
• The efficiency of the boiler in Abu-Qir power station is very low not exceeding than 40%.
• Natural gas is saving energy and water and economically betters.
• Natural gas emits a significant amount of nitrogen oxides.
• Mazout consumes more of energy and water.
• Mazout emit a significant amount of sulfur oxides and nitrogen oxides, in addition to the emissions of total suspended particulate which exceeded the AQL.
• This study proves that natural gas is more environmental friend than mazout.
• LCA is a very useful technique for reducing impacts the pollutant into environment; it’s very successful technique for comparing between products. LCA does not have a distinct methodology till now.
• Natural gas offers a number of economic and environmental advantages over its competing fuels. Proven natural gas reserves estimated at 24 trillion cu.ft. are relatively more abundant than oil reserves. Conversion to natural gas an alter nature that has a lot of advantages. These advantages are:
Natural gas has no sulfur in its chemical composition; there fore, it reduces the problem associated with sulfur in flue gasses. By eliminating sulfur in the
