Abstract

This study was carried out to study the effect of zinc deficiency on some
reproductive and immune functions of adult male rats. The study was carried out at the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Zagazig University. Thirty three mature male albino rats were divided into two groups. Zinc
deficient group of eighteen rats and zinc adequate group of fifteen rats. Six rats of ZD group and five rats of control group were sacrified after 4, 7 and 10 weeks from the beginning of the experiment. The body weights were recorded in both control groups and ZD groups. Blood samples were collected at the time of sacrifying in tubes without anticoagulants for obtaining serum to be used for estimation of testosterone and interleukin-2 levels and other blood samples were collected in tubes with anticoagulant for determination of total leucocytic count. Blood films were done for determination of lymphocytic percentage. Testes were carefully excised and mixed with physiological saline then homogenized to obtain the supernatant and were handled as the semen exactly. Furthermore, histopathological examination of testis and thymus was performed. The obtained results revealed the following: 1- Body weight The body weight showed significant decrease in both ZD groups D2 (after 7 weeks) and D3 (after 1 0 weeks) (235. 00±2. 69 gram and 219 .16±3 .98 gram) than that of control groups C2 and C3 (386.00±12.84 gram and 402.80±12.28
