Abstract
The present work was carried out to study addicts as regards socio-lographic, environmental, socioeconomic, and genetic factors, underlying grsonality and the level of abused drug.
The study entails two hundred male addicts, who were admitted to Alexandria Poison Center during the year 2000. All addicts were interviewed and their consent obtained to participate in the study. Fifty non-addicts of the same age and sex rere served as control group.
riodemographic Data:
The age of addicts ranged from 15-60 years, where just more than half of them |51.0%) were in the age group 20-30 years followed by those from 30-40 years 24.0%), while adolescents (15-20 years) accounted for 11.0%. In general the mean of addicts was 29.88±9.35 years.
The study showed a significant relation between addicts and non-addicts as »ards level of education , where just more than a quarter of the addicts (26.0%) re university students in comparison with 10.0% non-addicts control group. Again present study revealed that illiterate addicts and those who read and write (accounted for 23.0% and 24.0% respectively.
