Abstract Recent techniques for differentiation between pathogenic and non pathogenic avian P. multocida micro-organism. This study was carried out to: 1- Investigate the prevalence of P. multocida serotypes among some broiler, layer and breeder chicken flocks in Egypt. 2- Identify the isolated P. multocida biochemically and serologically. 3- Study the antibiotic sensitivity of isolated strains to the most available chemotherapeutic agents in vitro. 4- Determine the pathogenicity of isolated strains. 5- Study the plasmid profiles of the isolated P. multocida strains. The obtained results could be summarized as follows: 1- Thirty two P. multocida isolees could be obtained from 840 samples (taken from 161 flocks including 39 broilers, 47 layers and 75 breeder flocks). 2- The percentages of P. multocida isolation in layers and breeders were 29.7% and 24%, respectively. The morbidity ranged from 12-17 % in layers and 8-12 % in breeders but the mortality rate was 3-6 % and 4-7% in layers and breeders, respectively. 3- The Thirty two P. multocida isolates could be typed: a- According to capsular typing by Indirect Haemagglutinationtest: 30 isolates could be typed as capsular (A), 1 typed as capsular (D) and 1 isolate was untypable. |
