Abstract

During the last two decades , a great attention was paid towards the use of probiotics as food supplement not only supporting the growth of normal bacterial intestinal flora but also having a beneficial effect on
the feed conversion ratio , so this study was planned as a trial to
investigate the following items :
1- Isolation and identification of the bacterial constituents of some
probiotics .
2- Determination of phagocytic activity of chicks fed on feed supplemented with probiotics and make a comparison between treated .
and untreated control group of chicks.
3- Performing the challenge test by using E.coli 078:K80 forexperimental infection of both treated and untreated control groups of chicks.
The obtained data proved that:
1- A statistical significant differences in the phagocytic % and phagocytic index between chicks of probiotic treated and untreated groups
2- The increase in phagocytic % in Group B (Treated with 1. acidophilus)
71.50%, 14%, 7.5% and 6.35% was significant than the other groups
and the untreated control group J (Negative control not treaed with
probiotic bacteria) 33.750/0, 7.50/0, 7.5% and 3.075% followed by Group
D (Treated with E. faecium) 55.40%,13%, 10% , and 5.5% Group A
(Treated with B.subtilis natto) 47.50%, 11.5%, 7.5% and 2.5% and finally
Group C (Treated with 1. acidophilus, casei, E. faecium and
