Abstract

Pasteurella haemolytica is the aetiological pathogen of
Pneumonic pasteurellosis (a fibrinous, necrotic pneumonia and
shipping fever in cattle, sheep and other ruminants) exerting
considerable world wide economic impact bovine and ovine
industries. So this study was planned as an attempt to throw spot lights upon
the prevalence of P. haemolytica in Menoufia Governorate, studying
their culture characteristic biochemical ,serological typing and the
susceptibly of P. haemolytica isolates to various antimicrobial agents
and preparation of a suitable vaccine, evaluation of the humeral
immune response by indirect haemagglutination technique.
For attending these goals 450 samples were collected from sheep
a total of 200 nasopharyngeal swabs ,(100 from apparently healthy
and 100 from pneumonic sheep) and a total of 250 lung samples (100
from apparently healthy and 150 from pneumonic lung). P. haemolytica was isolated from nasal swabs in the percentage
of 4% in healthy animals while in diseased one 32% with a total
incidence of 18%. P. haemolytica was not isolated from healthy lungs
while in diseased one 30.67% with a total incidence of 14.4%.
The biochemical activities of P. haemolytica isolates in this study roved that P. haemolytica cause -haemolysis in blood agar, grow
,well onto MacConkey’s media with pin colored colonies.
