Abstract ABSTRACT Gastric earinoma is the second most common tumor in the world coming after lung cancer (Neugeut et. Al, 1996) with highest incidence in japan (Fuchs and Mayer, 1995). It represents 1.64% of all cqancers in Egypt according to National Cancer Institute (NCI) data (El-Bolkainy, 2005a). the over all 5-years survival of gastric carcinoma is generally poor (5 to 15%) (El-Bolkainy, 2005b) and the most important prognostic factors are the stage of the tumor, site of the tumor, histological type and grade as well as depth of invasion (Kelley and Duggan, 2003). This arouse the need for potential use of markers that predict the tumor behavior and other markers that can be used as a target for therapy (Tastugushi et al., 2004) This work aimed at evaluation of COX-2 expression in gastric carcinoma and its correlation with established clinicalopathological parameters. The material of this study consisted of paraffin blocks of sixty gastric specimens. Sixteen cases of chronic gastritis as a comparative. |
