Abstract Calcium ions play a central role in the processes of neurotransmission. Imbalance in the noradrenergic, serotonergic and dopaminergic systems had been implicated in the pathogenesis of many CNS disorders. There are several recent reports about the role of calcium entry blockers in the management of several neurological and psychological diseases. Moreover, calcium entry blockers binding sites had been identified in many neural preparations. Hence it is tempting to speculate a kind of relation-ship between brain monoamines and CEBs. This study was conducted to demonstrate the effect of a single dose and prolonged administration of the three CEBs, viz verapamil, nifedipine and diltiazem on brain monoamine levels. |
