Abstract

Ultrasound imaging is a very safe and non invasive
diagnostic technique. By using ultrasound we are able to
visualize the internal structure of the body and diagnose diseases that otherwise would only be found with surgery.
The development of ultrasonic energy as a diagnostic tool
has opened up for better diagnostic results in the evaluation of salivary gland masses. US has several superiorities over other methods of imaging for example, the absence of radiation exposure, short evaluation time (5-10 min) and noninvasiveness. Although ultrasound in head and neck diseases has been used for many years, the advent of newer high resolution transducers have revolutionized imaging of the salivary glands
(Da-xi et al., 1987).
