Abstract

coastal ecosystems are selected for attention because they both very reproductive and very vulnerable. A large >portion of the world’s population is concentrated along the jstline and along banks of rivers which drain into coastal iters. Hence the effects of pollution are most marked in near )re waters. At the same time, man has come to rely heavily on istal waters for food and for recreation. The double impact of iding pollutants while harvesting plants and animals places a jat strain on coastal aquatic ecosystems.
coastal ecosystems have been monitored and studied by Perent techniques. from these, geographical information stem (CIS) and remote sensing techniques were found to be Fective.
The majority of the remote sensing applications in the juatic environment, deal with detection of chlorophyll and >tal phytoplankton levels, suspended sediments, temperature the sea surface, hydrodynamics, and monitoring of the Fluents, plumes, and oil slicks. Other applications deal with jnsing the bottom types, trophic levels, fishing applicability in jrtain studied areas, effect of yellow substance (organic jbstance) on the chlorophyll and suspended sediments Idetection.
The main advantage of CIS is to create several data layers i that can be used by a variety of users over an extended period of time, once encoded in the system, they can be independently
