Abstract

The preset study dealt with parasites infesting pigeons. Cases were from household pigeons and towers in different localities in Sharkia Governorate.
from 417 examined pigeons, 82 birds from household pigeons and 335 were pigeon from towers.
The percentage of infection was 56.83% infestation with internal parasites and 40.76% infestation with external parasites.
Internal parasites reported in pigeons were Ascaridia columbae (21.9%); Capillaria species (7.6%) and cestodes (70.5%).
The highest rate of infestation with ascaridiasis was (24.3%) during September, October and November months, (9.6%) during March, April and May months; (8.0%) in June, July and August months and (6.0%) during December, January and February months.
The highest rate of Capillaria infestation was (8.4%) during September, October and November months followed by (3.2%) during June, July and August and (3.0%) in March, April and May months and (2.0%) during December, January and February months.
Cestodes infestation was (56.3%) in March, April and May months; (48.0%) in June, July and August months; (24.0%) in September, October and November months and (10.0%) in December, January and February months.
The percentage of infestation with cestodes varied between pigeons obtained from towers (86.22%) and pigeons obtained from household pigeons (13.88%).
