Abstract The rapid growth of urban areas represents a worldwide phenomenon experienced, in recent years, by all countries. Most of this expansion in developing countries, however was undertaken haphazardly, generating mixed patterns of land uses. This mis-use of land produces a wide range of problems. After studying the various aspects of land use and unplanned growth of urban areas, this chapter aims to provide a summary of this study in the first section. Then the main problems resulted from mis-use of land prevailing in the study area are presented in the second section. The third and final section, provides a number of recommendations based upon the theoretical as well as empirical results. Such recommendations need to be implemented in order to solve identified problems and consequently improve living conditions in the study area. |
