Abstract

1. INTRODUCTION
Open-end rotor spinning has emerged as a successful textile engineering strategy for spinning yarns, due to its high output rates and low labor requirements (lower costs). It also combines three stages, roving, spinning and winding into one.
The new Open-end yarns surpass conventional ring-spun yarns, not only by their regular appearance but also by the reduced imperfections; thick and thin places, neps …… etc . It is also more abrasion resistant, more extensible and less hairy. All these favourable characteristics lead to better process in subsequent textile operations, resulting in higher productivity and superior quality of end products.
Critical stages of development, in the past, have been in the further spinning technology, machine engineering, and the automation.
Economic considerations and the desire to attain new outlets, especially whilst maintaining the high quality standards in the finer yarn count range, have been foremost in mind.
These aspects have led to the currently conventional rotor speeds of 120000 r.p.m. Even higher speeds are being aimed at, and in some cases, already achieved. It has been possible to attain good running behaviour on the machine, while maintaining the quality standards of the fine yarns. An important influence on the yarn quality is exerted by the sliver preparation. Sliver structure and amount of paralelization have a major effect on spinning performance and yarn properties .
The present study subjected to clarify the effect of sliver preparation, rotor speed and rotor diameter on yarn properties for spinning the Egyptian long staple cotton by the open-end rotor spinning machine. Also, the study will cover the silver unevenness (C.V.%) thin places, thick places and number of neps/120 yds.
