Abstract

The aim of the present work is the study of external and internal parasites of both migrant and farmed quails, dealing with their prevalence intensities, seasonal dynamics and morphological.
Common grey quails, Coturnix coturnix coturnix are important game birds, belonging to Family Phasianidae, order Galliformes (Perrins, 1990). They are terresterial, temperate and tropical birds that live on grass land. Such birds had been desiccated in Egyptian hierolyphs dating Circa 5000 Bc. (Hoffman, 1988).
Recently, these birds can provide a profitable means of income supplying grown birds to outdoor sporting clubs. Furthermore, quails are interesting domesticated economic species for commercial egg and meat production beside chickens. Also, they are adaptable to intensive systems of poultry husbandry. Beside, they are fairly resistance to most diseases and are blessed with the unique characteristics of fast growth, early sexual maturity, high rate of egg production, able to produce more than 300 eggs per year with short production cycle and earlier marketing age (Mountney and Parkhurst, 1998). Moreover, quail eggs are widely acceptable by patients suffering from cholesterosis and their meat are considered delicacy among many people (Abdel-Aal and El-Sayed, 2003). Thus, attention must be paid to investigate the ecto- and endoparasites affecting the growth, general health and egg production or even causing death of quails.
