Abstract

This work was planed to study the incidence and prevalence of the detected protozoal parasites in small ruminants at different ages and sex during the months of the year in Sharkia Province.
Microscopic examination for 2031 faecal samples (1145 sheep and 886 goats) resulted in detection of Eimeria oocysts in 76.51% of samples, 7 species of Eimeria in sheep (E.parva, E.crandallis, E. ovinoidalis, E. ovina, E.faurei, E.intricata and E.ahsata) and 7 species in goats (E.arloingi, E.ninakahlyakimovae, E.alijevi, E.christenseni, E.caprina, E.jolchijevi and E.hirci). The effect of age and sex of animals during the four seasons also studied. Cryptosporidium infection studied among sheep and goats that was 13.34% (271 out of 2031).
Percentage of infection with Cryptosporidium in relation to age and sex of animals in the different seasons of the year also studied. The haematological changes on sheep and goats infected with Eimeria spp. and Cryptosporidium infections in different age groups including erythrocytic parameters, leukogram and serum proteinogram also studied in addition to the biochemical changes regarding serum electrolytes level (sodium, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium) in blood to determine the effect of these enteric parasites on immune system of the infected animals.
Also, 200 serum samples from 120 sheep and 80 goats were serologically examination for serodiagnosis of Toxoplasma infection using three tests latex agglutination test, indirect haemagglutination test and ELISA, percentage of Toxoplasma infection was 23%, 21.50% and 28.50%, respectively.
