Abstract

Assessment of the flow mediated vasodilatation (FMD) and flow change of the brachial artery using power Doppler ultarasonography (PDUS) is a reliable method for assessment of the early inflammatory part of atherosclerosis in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients as many of SLE patients with decreased FMD and flow change of the brachial artery have normal lipid profile
• FMD and flow change of the brachial artery can detect the early inflammatory part of the atherosclerotic process and significantly correlated with serious clinical manifestation in SLE patients as nephritis and CNS manifestations especially seizures .
• Assessment of wave shape pattern of the blood flow of the brachial artery , as a new brand test, has an additive value to the results of FMD and flow change of the brachial artery .
• The results of the current study suggest that , FMD and flow change of the brachial artery using PDUS represents a non-invasive, low-cost, safe especially in pregnant females as an early and readily available tool allowing sensitive demonstration and monitoring of premature atherosclerosis in SLE patients .
