Abstract In chapter I, a literature survey is given which deals with the following fields of interest: i. Opinions concerning the definition of the strength of acids and bases and the theories used for the determination of acid strength in water. ii. Classification of solvents according to their acidic or basic character iv. Spectrophotometric studies of acidbase interactions in inert solvents. I.b. The aim of the present investigation is to: 1. Study the relative strengths of benzoic acid and its derivatives in THJF and chlorobenzene by evaluating the equi¬librium constant (K** ^ ) for the association of the ear-as soc • boxylic acid (HA) with the reference base (B), 1,3-diphenyl-guanidine, in the presence of the indicator acid (HI), 2,6-diohloro-4—nitrophenol. £».Study of the relative basic strength of aniline, pyri-dirxe and their derivatives in the same solvents by evaluating |
