Abstract

Hie sunlight \vhicli reaches the earth’s surface can be divided into three basic portions: Infrared, Visible light and Ultraviolet. The ultraviolet radiation spectrum can be classified into three groups according to its wavelength, UV-C (I80-280iim), UV-B (280-320nm) and UV-A (320-400nm) Each group has its own biological effect on the human skin taken into consideration that the shorter the wavelength the higher energy it will be.
The exposure to the ultraviolet radiation is a risk factor for the formation of the malignant neoplasm of the skin and for the skin ageing. In the recent years skin tumors has strongly increased e\ery year about 100000 persons contract various forms of the skin cancer. In the human suffering caused by the skin cancer there is also an economic burden due td the cost of diagnosis, treatment and care of terminally ill patients.
There are main (actors affecting the transmissibility of a fabric such as: the type of the raw material, fabric structure, fabric color, moisture content, fabric finishing.:.etc.
In this work samples of woven and knitted fabrics are investigated to study the ultraviolet transmissibility of woven fabrics by using different cover factor, material and color, while the factors of the knitted fabrics were: weight gm/ mtA2, material, structure, finishing process and dying.
The effect of washing on the ultraviolet transmission was also studied for both woven and
knitted fabrics.
