Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate the possible interaction betweenbr>m:1rbot1oxacin (given lM as 10mg/kg b.wt. for 5 successive days) and jojoba oil given as 2.5% of ration for 6 weeks starting from one day old) in pathogenic E.coli 078 experimentally infected quails for controlling such infection as well as their effect on growth performance parameters, some serum biochemical parameters and histopathological changes. Results are summarized as follows:
I. In vitro antibacterial activity:
a. Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of marbofloxacin: MIC of marbofloxacin against pathogenic E.coli 078 serotype of avian origin, was 0.0048J.!g/ml. indicating a low MIC value and high susceptibility of E. coli to marbofloxacin.
b. Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) of marbofloxacin:
MBC of marbofloxacin against pathogenic E.coli 078 serotype of avian origin was 0.039Ilg/ml; sex-fold higher than the MIC. c. Sensitivity of pathogenic E.coli 078 of avian origin to jojoba oil and marbofloxacin compared with other antimicrobia\s (Disc Diffusion Method): Jojoba oil and marbofloxacin (5% and 10% jojoba oil in petroleum ether) possess a potent antibacterial effect represented in a wide inhibition zone of E.coli growth (34mm, 20mm and 22 mm respectively) compared with those of the other anti microbials 11. In vivo antibacterial activity: br>Experimental design: Three hundred and twenty (320) one-day-old quail chicks were used in <the study. They were classified into 2 groups as follows:
