Abstract
During the period from October 2002 to September 2003,forty high-risk patients underwent elective abdominal operations through midline incisions in the gastroenterology unit of the general surgery department of Tanta University Hospitals.To evaluate the outcome of prophylactic prosthetic reinforcement of midline closure, these patients were randomly divided into two equal groups, group A closed with continuous single layer mass closure with polypropylene suture and reinforced by polypropylene mesh and group B underwent similar closure without mesh.
