Abstract
The present thesis comprises three chapters. Th© first includes a general review on the literature of the phenolic compounds and their complexes.
The second chapter gives the experimental work, the preparation of the solutions, the solid metal complexes and the apparatus used in the present study. The ligands used for this purpose are o-aminophenol, catechol, pyrogallol and gallic acid to react with cobalt, nickel and copper salts. 5!he elemental analysis proved that all the prepared completes

are of 1:2 stoichiometry.
$he third chapter comprises four parts, The fi£st part includes studies involving pH measurements. The pH titration curves for the six ligands (o-amiaophenol, catechop., pyrogallol, gallic acid, salicylic acid and o-nitrophenol) versus the metal or for the complexes against NaOH, leading to hydrogen ion jration during complexation with an optinum pH for the
ition of a complex within 4-6.2, The variation of pK’s Lues for the ligands and those of the complexes calculated in jsence of the different metal ions, indicates the formation stable chelates. In all the complexes studied, 1:1 and 1:2 jcies are traced in solutions beside the formation of 1:3 icies in cobalt systems. The latter can be related to the >able oxidation of Co(II) to Co(III).
