Abstract

I. In Chapter I, an introduction is given which deals with the following fields of interest:
- Inhibitors for acid solutions, -Structure of the electrical double layer (E.D.L),
- The electrochemical behaviour of iron, - Potential of zero charge, - Principle types of inhibitor adsorption, - Theories of inhibition, - Inhibition of steel corrosion in neutral solutions, - Influence of temperature on the action of inhibitors, - Effect of molecular structure of organic compounds on corrosion rate and Literature survey of inhibition of steel corrosion.
II. In chapter II, the experimental techniques used were:
- Chemical technique (weight loss). The measurements were carried out at four temperatures ranging from 30-60°C on steel in 1 M H2SO4 in the absence and in the presence of different concentrations of cyclam.
- Electrochemical techniques used were DC technique (potentiodynamic) and AC
technique (impedance measurements).
The DC polarization technique was used to record the polarization curves of mild steel in 1M HjSO,,, containing certain concentrations of cyclam or 2,3,2-tet at different temperatures ranging from 30 to 60°C and at 30 °C in 0.1 M H2S04 or 0.1M Na2SO4. The potential scanning rate employed was 0.03 volt/min. The reference electrode was a saturated calomel electrode.
