Abstract
Testicular lesions are a common clinical problem affecting males of all age groups. Clinical examination alone is not sufficient for accurate diagnosis, so development of accurate diagnostic tool is necessary. Color Doppler sonography has been established as a reliable tool of investigating different testicular lesions.
Our study had evaluated the accuracy, sensitivity and specificity of color Doppler sonography in diagnosis of different testicular lesions. Forty patients presented with scrotal pain and /or swelling were subjected to careful examination by Gray scale and color Doppler, sonography. In acute conditions (testicular torsion and acute epididymo-orchitis), color Doppler sonography is more sensitive than gray scale reaching sensitivity of 100%. In chronic testicular lesion, the additional role of color Doppler sonography to gray scale sonography is limited because there are overlap in the vascular pattern and Doppler indices between the inflamed and malignant vessels. The sensitivity of color Doppler in diagnoses of chronic epididymo-orchitis was 87% identical with that of grayscale sonography. The sensitivity of color Doppler songraphy in diagnosis of malignancy was 80% while the sensitivity of gray scale sonography was 60% and this could be explained by the ability of Doppler songraphy to
