Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from defect in insulin secretion, insulin action or bath. The cluonic hyperglycemia of diabetes is associated with long-term damage, dysfunction, and failure of various organs, especially the eyes, kidney, nerves, heart and blood vessels.°
Diabetes mellitus is also regarded as a heterogenous primary disorder of carbohydrate and fat metabolism with multiple etiologic factors that gmerally involve absolute or relative insulin deficiency or resistance to its action or both. All cases of diabetes ultimately lead to hyperglycemia, which is the hallmark of this disease syndromeP
