Abstract total of 200 rodents were collected from Faculty of Agriculture (61), Nahda farm (51) and Abbis villages (88) at Alexandria Province. The collected rodents were identified as Rattus rattus rattus (41), Rattus rattus norvegicus (38), Rattus rattus alexandrinus (44), Arvicanthus nioticus (29), Acomys cahirinus (18) and Mus musculus (30). The samples were taken from different organs of rodents (intestine, kidney, liver, spleen and lung) as well as hair samples and examined bacteriologically and mycologically for detection of pathogens of zoonotic importance. The obtained results revealed the followings: 1. PATHOGENIC AND POTENTIALLY PATHOGENIC BACTERIA ISOLATED FROM EXAMINED RODENTS: E. coil (50%), Salmonella (17%), Shigella flexneri (2.5%), Staphylococcus aureus (14.5%), Streptococcus pyogenes (6.5%), Streptococcus faecails (27.5 %), Corynebacterium diph therae (1 %), Corynebacterium pyogenes (17%), Corynebacterium renale (2%), Kiebsiella pneumoniae (27%), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (32%), Proteus |
