Abstract
the immunocompromised host has one or more defects in the usual defense ;ms against infections, which may be due to common pathogen or istic organisms.
jportunistic infections are those caused by organisms that are generally ;d non pathogenic in immunocompetent individuals or those whose clinical accentuated in patient with impaired host defense.
e present work was designed to study the parasitic infections in ;ompromised patients. The most common parasitic infections, which were and therefor were searched for are, Cryptosporidium parvum, mdia, Cyclospora cayetanensis. Isospora belli, Giardia lamblia, ystis carinii, Toxoplasma gondii, Leishmania and free-living amoebae.
Le study was conducted on 50 immunocompromised patients suffering from neoplastic diseases. They were treated for acute myeloid leukemia (15 cute lymphocytic leukemia (10 cases), chronic myeloid leukemia (lOcases) , dgkin’s lymphoma (6 cases ) , Hodgkin’s lymphoma (2 cases), multiple i (2 cases), or had Miscellaneous neoplastic disorders (5 cases). Ten healthy ubjects were served as control.
