Abstract
In this work, evaluation of the results of open reduction and internal fixation of displaced intra-articular fractures of the calcaneus was carried out. The extended lateral approach of the kind foot was used. The material of this study consisted of 20 patients (20 feet). Their age ranged from 18 to 49 years with the mean of 30-5 years. Males were affected in 80% of cases and females in 20%. The right side was affected in 55% and the left in 4-5%. A higher incidence was found among manual workers (70%) followed by house wives (20%). Following from a height was the mechanism of injury in all cases. Two patients (10%) had associated skeletal injuries. Fracture spine occurred in one patient (5%). Preoperative CT scanning was used to classify the types of intra-articular calcaneal fractures according to sander’s classification into four types:
Type I: non-displaced .
Type II: two parts (split).
Type III: three parts.
Type IV: comminuted.
