Abstract
This work was planned to compare the results of treatment of the simple displaced supracondylar fractures of the humerus by 2 methods of treatment according to which the material of this work was divided into two groups. The patients of group 1 were treated by open reduction and internal fixation using midline posterior approach. The patients of group II were treated by closed manipulation under image intensifier and percutaneous kirscher wire fixation using either medial-lateral pins or two lateral pins.
The material of this study included 50 cases of simple displaced supracondylar fracture of the humerus divided into two groups in alternating manner each group consisted of 25 cases.
Selection was alternating one by one.
There were 36 boys (72%) and 14 girls (28%) with a ratio of about 5:2. In group I included 19 boys (76%), 6 girls (24%). Group II included 17 boys 68%, 8 girls 32%. The age of the patients ranged between 2 lh years and 12 years with overall average of 7 years with high incidence between 3-9 years.
