Abstract This study aimed to detect the value of VEP in early detection of CNS effects of preeclampsia. The results show that VEP latencies decreased with normal pregnancy, but increased in preeclampsia. The increase is usually parallel to the severity of the disease, and in severe cases of preeclampsia amplitude of VEP may be affected as well reflecting more serious changes to the CNS. VEP can detect early subclinical CNS changes in preeclampsia, and as it is safe, easy, simple, well tolerated, noninvasive, and highly sensitive. It is recommended to be used as a routine test in patients with preeclampsia. |
