Ganglia are the most common tumors of the hand, where they occur in relation to joints and tendons. In its most typical form, a ganglion appears as a firm, well defined nodule, at times the consistency may be a bit softer and frequently the tumors are multilocular. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the usefulness of the use of ultrasound as a diagnostic method in the treatment of ganglia as well as a trial to evaluate the ganglia histopathologically. The current study was carried out at the Orthopedic Department in Hadara University Hospital. Thirty patients with clinically diagnosed ganglia irrespective of their anatomical site were included. Both sexes and all age groups were enrolled in the study. The patients were admitted as inpatients and were subjected to a full history taking, thorough clinical examination and full laboratory investigation. Ultrasound evaluation was done in the radiology department of Alexandria University Hospital. Ultrasound examination was very useful in differentiating masses other than ganglia and facilitated pre-operative planning.
