Abstract RTAs are reported to be the world’s most important health problem and it is expected that by 2020, they would move up to third place among leading causes of death and disability. The current study aimed to throw the light on the problem of RTAs in Great Cairo, evaluate the circumstances of the accidents, the pattern of the resulting injuries and its outcome. Also, to investigate whether some drugs or natural diseases are causative factors of accidents occurrence. To achieve that aim, the study comprised two parts: 1. The prospective study which provides information about 721 victims of RTAs who were admitted to the Emergency Department in El-Demerdash Hospitals in the period from 1/1/2007 to 30/6/2007. By analysis the collected data in the current study, RTAs represented the most frequent cause of acute injuries with a percent of 53.2% which was statistically significant in relation to other causes of injuries admitted to the Emergency Department in the same period. Also RTA victims represented 12.3% of the total number of the patients who were admitted in the same period to the Emergency Department. |
