Abstract

From the anatomic point of view, the coronary artery system is divided into two distributions, right coronary artery and left coronary artery.
Left coronary artery is divided into left anterior descending coronary artery and its branches and left circumflex coronary artery and its branches.
Most of venous return from the heart enters the coronary sinus.
Resting coronary blood flow about 225 mL/min or 4-5% of total cardiac output, which increases during exercise.
Myocardial ischemia occurs as a result of increased myocardial oxygen demand, reduced myocardial O2 supply or both.
Coronary artery disease represents an important risk in patients undergoing noncardiac surgical procedures.
Risk assessment evaluates patients’ co-morbidities and exercise tolerance, as well as the type of surgery to be performed, to determine the overall risk of perioperative cardiac complications. Previous or current cardiac disease, diabetes and renal insufficiency all confer higher risks for perioperative cardiac complications.
